Female ferret (swollen vulva)

Question
Hi, I have a female ferret about 6 or 7 years old.  Over the last couple weeks, I've noticed that she has a swollen vulva, and she has begun losing hair around her neck area.
She did have successful Adrenal Gland surgery about 4 years ago, so I wouldn't think that it could be Adrenal Disease.  That is - unless this surgery typically involves the removal of only one gland.

I certainly plan to see my vet about this, but I have a difficult time getting time off work to make an appointment, and when I call the vet, rather than discuss it, they always say, "We can't really say much until you bring her in."  Therefore, I was just hoping I could get a more immmediate answer (before I set my appointment) on what may be the problem.  Any ideas?

Oh, by the way, she is still very happy and playful as if nothing is wrong.  No change in her personality.

Answer
Hi Tom!  A swollen vulva and hair loss in a female ferret really can only mean one thing...Adrenal Disease.  It would be uncommon for your vet to have only removed one gland, so getting her to your vet would be best to figure out what is going on with her.  I wish I could tell you differently, but these are classic, by the book signs of Adrenal Disease.  Please let me know what is found and how she does!
