My Vizsla & Sebaceous Adenitis

Question
Last year my 5 year old Vizsla was diagnosed with SA. She
started with hive-like bumps and then was treated for Staph
with Cephalexin. it got worse. She looked like she was going
thru Chemo. Almost completly bald. Punch biopsies came back
positive for Sebaceous Adenitis. I have been doing Baby oil baths
& fish oil supplements, and she is looks 100% normal now. She
was my foundation breeding bitch and I want to get a 2nd
opinion before I spay her. If she looks normal now (not affected),
will the biopsy still show SA, and could SA be misdiagnosed as
Thyroid problem or allergy?  Her sire has produced close to 200
puppies and there have been a few other similar line breedings
with her sire and dam and sisters back to the same sire with no
known skin problems.

Thanks

Answer
There are two phases for SA.  First, the sebaceous glands get inflammed and second, scar tissue replaces the glandular tissue.  So the biopsy readout will depend on the stage of the SA. It is very hard to miss SA on histopathology because it is so different from allergies or hypothyroidism.
