4 y/o cat acting wierd

Question
Hello, I have a 4 y/o tuxedo cat that is always very friendly and loving.  1 week ago we (cat and I) moved into a household with 3 other cats.  During the next 2 days the typical hissing took place but no physical fighting.  My cat had his own food bowl and he ate from it.  He found the other cats food dish and water and started eating and drinking from that.  After the 3rd day i removed his food dish, the hissing has pretty much gone away, the cats get along (as much as they can in 1 week), he still eats from the others dish and drinks from their dish aswell.  The only thing is i have not SEEN him go to the baathroom at all.  He knows where it is at and put his paw in it twice.  Up until today (6 days later) he's been his normal self, playing and loving...etc.  Today I noticed he has been OVER loving, needy, and lazy.  Everywhere I go he has to be on me, touching me.  He gained a spurt of energy and started playing on the bed by himself, i pulled out the lazer pen and he was so excited.  We played for about 5 min with it (normal amount of time).  We played fighted where he'd bit my hand and I'd claw his head...again...fine.  As soon as we were done and i walked away, he layed down and wants to sleep again.  He has not howled at all in pain or cried or nothing.

I guess my question(s) are,

1. IF my cat has not gone to the bathroom in a week, would there be a bigger sign (crying, howeling, etc)?

2. Why would my cat be so lethargic all of a sudden, have energy, then lazy again?

I should also mention the 2 of us live in a finished basement, the other 3 cats don't come down unless they need to eat or go to the bathroom.  Rather cold in the basement, 63-68, the food and litter are in the same room (laundry room)  15X15 room and on opposite sides of the room.

If I SHOULD take him in I will, but my dad said he probally has gone to the bathroom, just haven't seen it.  My dad also said I would have noticed more severe signs if he wasn't.  But he's not a doctor.  Can you help at all Please!?

Thanks

Answer
Ken I am glad you are being a good parent to your cat. I think that after a week he has gone somewhere-maybe where the other cats go?
You might want to look under your bed too.

Male cats cannot go that long and not urinate without having a very serious, sometimes fatal problem with bladder blockages. Your cat wouldn't be playing with you if he was having that issue at all.

So I would just be patient and be grateful he is eating and drinking and getting along with the other cats. You might find some stool in a shoe or somewhere at some point, but don't punish him for it.

Just keep an eye on him and you can feel his bladder by reaching under his belly toward his flanks where his hips are and squeezing gently. If his bladder was full it would be the size of a small pumpkin by now.

So just check around the house or your room and especially in the laundry room and you might find a surprise. Keep his litter box where you can see it but it is not in a traffic area.

I hope this helps. Keep me posted on what you find.
