Question
my daughter has a little dog that has been having siezures but not frequent enough to be put on medication. The other night he had them all night until the morning. Her vet told her to bring him and let him their so they could do some testing on him. The next day they told her she could pick him up at the vets. Well whe she tried to pick him up he bit her. He's never bitten anyone before. It's like he doesn't know her. His temperament has changed. He's not the same dog. Is this normal?

Answer
Well it can happen with dogs that have seizures, but any dog put in a cage can get what we call 'cage trauma' and bite.
If he has been to the vets many times and this hasn't happened before, then it's possible that he was frightened because of the seizures and thus bit her because she startled him or scared him.
How he behaves at home and his reaction to the medication is much more indicative of what the seizures are doing to his personality.
People with severe seizure activity sometimes have personality changes but since the frontal lobes of the brain are usually not the seat of seizure activity, it isn't always permanent.
All vet's are also aware of the risk of being bitten by any dog.
