Dog/Urinating

Question
I have a medium size dog. He is a good dog and very friendly. His only problem is, when I let him inside the house, he likes to go around urinating everywhere. He can go in and out, but it is almost as if he holds his urine until he gets inside the house. I do not know why he does this. It is almost as if he does it on purpose.
What can I do to break him of this habit. It is so bad, I am thinking of giving him to the pound. We have two dogs and there are very close. I do not want to have to give him up. I have had him since he was a puppy. Please help me. Thank you.

Answer
This is your dog and you need to solve the problem and not dump him at the shelter and give someone else a problem.  First of all, if he is not neutered, he should be neutered ASAP.  Secondly, the urination problems may be due to an underlying urinary tract infection or urinary crystals and not a habit, therefore, I would recommend taking a urine specimen to the vet to be checked.  Lastly, I would recommend crate training to get him to re-learn the proper house training.  Also, make sure when he goes outside to praise him and reward him--keep him on a leash so he knows it is time to do business.  If he has an accident inside do NOT punish...clean it up and forget it.  Make sure to feed him on a schedule and also take the water away at night.  He should be in the crate at night and when you are away during the day.  You should plan on taking him outside every 2-3 hours for a few weeks to establish proper bathroom habits.
