My cat is throwing up.

Question
My cat is a medium haired gray cat. He is about 14 years old. When he was young, the vet said he had a heart murmur and that I should give him food with a higher taurine count for it. He has always thrown up every once and a while, but for the last day, he has thrown up quite a few times. (5 times overnight alone) It appears to be food and not hairballs. He doesn't act sick, he is very alert and friendly. Last night, we kept him in the bathroom, took away his food but left lots of water. This morning we gave him a little canned food. He ate it and hasnt thrown it up yet. (30 minutes) It is Sunday and the vet is not open. What can I do for him so I know he is not in pain or uncomfortable? And what can I do to help him stop throwing up?

Answer
Hello Aubrey:  Let's go with a fasting time of just water:

If he can't keep down water, please call the VET ASAP... OK?

FASTING TIME. A 24 hour fast is the most important thing you can do to allow your cat's inflamed stomach to heal.
Allow access to controlled amounts of water, but no food.

After 24 hours offer bland food such as plain white cooked rice; give equivalent amounts of rice as you do dog or cat food.

****You can do the DRY food if he won't take the above suggestions:

After 48 hours mix their regular food with rice and don't fully go to regular food until after 72 hours.

Good Luck on this!!!
