Question

Sores on Guinne Pig
My daughter has a guinne pig who has many red sores on its body and some are almost perfectly round.  His skin is flaky and hair is falling out.  Can you tell me what it is and how can we fix it without an expensive trip to the vet?  Thank You.

Answer
You many need a visit to the professional, but first try this:
Feed fresh grass that has no pesticides in it. Include dandelion, plantain, couch grass, borage, lemon-grass, wood-sage and other weeds.

In the book, Pottenger's Cats, he did studies on cats (raw meat, raw milk and codliver oil was the best) and guinea pigs. One group was fed rolled and cracked grain with cod liver oil and alfalfa (this is like the pellets). Shortly they show loss of hair, over barbering, skin rashes, paralysis and high litter mortality. When fed fresh cut greed grass they recovered. The foraging pigs did even better.

My guinea pig did great when I put a pen outside on the grass and weeds (we do not spray or fertilize or use any pesticides). One client's GP was cured of an abdominal tumor when she started feeding fresh grass.

I assume you are giving the vitamin C that is critical to GPs.
