Question
My cat (who is almost 17) has recently had a watery rust colored substance tearing from his eye.  this has been going on his whole life but this time it will not go away. is there a cream you could suggest?

Answer
Most discharges from eyes and mouths and noses of our pets are reddish colored because they have iron in their saliva and mucous membranes that is manifested differently then we have.

If this is a re-occuring thing with his eye has it ever been checked?
16 yr old cats tend to get things like dry-eye- which look like they are tearing but are really having a problem with the tear ducts and they are spilling over instead of going into the eye.

I would have the vet take a look at his eye and he can recommend an ointment that will help open up his tear ducts, if that is the problem.
Otherwise, he can give you something for the eye.

I cannot recommend anything and wouldn't-eye issues should always been seen by a vet. Eyes are too easily damaged.
