Question
QUESTION: My puppy was up at 530am this morning whining, I took him outside and he pooped loose stool, then kept straining to go again.  He also vomited a few times, but it was clear and bubbly.  He has been straining and now bleeding bright red blood from his butt for an hour now.  He as also vomited twice more, still clear and bubbly.  He will not eat or drink anything.  Please can you help?

ANSWER: Your puppy sounds like he has parvo. You need to call a vet and get him in for treatment. You didn't say how old this dog is or whether or not he is vaccinated but pit bulls are very prone to parvo virus.
It can be fatal if not treated. Some vets will let you treat at home once you bring the puppy in.

Either way, it is imperative that you get him in right away. In the mean time you can give him some Pedialyte or Gatoraide in small amounts to
keep him hydrated but he HAS to see a vet right away.

Parvo virus is nothing to wait on.Even if he doesn't have parvo he still needs to see a vet if he is bleeding like this and vomiting. Puppies don't have a lot of reserves so they go down hill very fast.
I hope he gets well. Please let me know if he is okay.

QUESTION: Thank you.  My puppy is 14wks old. I called my vet this morning, took him in and he gave him an antibiotic shot and pills to take home with me.  My vet did say it sounds like parvo.  The strange thing is, my puppy had his shots on time his last set was 2 days ago.  My vet is the greatest, he has a vaccination guarantee.  If the animal gets any kind of disease that he was vaccinated for and if he had his vaccinations on time, he will not charge you for hospital bills or meds to help the animal get better.  I did take him out an hour ago and he had diariha.  hopefully he will be better in the morning.  thanks again.

Answer
That is an amazing guarantee considering the fact that some puppies maternal antibodies will kill off the vaccinations and that because pit bulls are so prone to parvo that even with all their vaccs they still can get it. But vaccinated puppies tend to do better and usually survive it. Unvaccinated ones usually don't.
So you are lucky indeed.
I am glad you acted so promptly in getting him in and seen. Good for you for being a great pet owner!
I hope he recovers well and quickly. Thanks for letting me know and please keep me posted on his recovery.
