What is the real truth?

Question
I have always kept current on my pets' exams and vaccinations for years and years, often at considerable expense. I don't intend to change anything now. I would, however, like to know the truth. What are the odds that a dog, over a lifetime, will actually _get_ heartworm or rabies without a vaccination? I once adopted a ten-year-old terrier from a person in Louisiana who had never vaccinated the dog. When I took the dog in to the vet, she tested free of heartworm. Was this dog extremely lucky, or is this what you would expect? Like I said, I will always vaccinate my animals, but what are the odds that adult dogs will get these two diseases? I am just curious. What are the numbers?

Answer
i do not  have the numbers for what you are looking for. BUT  you can ask you vet for local statistics of the diseseases.

Keep your pet on heartworm preventative. Not only does it protect against that, but it does help with intestinal parasites.

Rabies is always a MUST, its the law in many states. Other vaccines are optional. BUT you must follow guidelines for boarding etc if they require a vax, get it done. Epecially if the pet is not in your home for a few days. Also if your dog goes to the park, have him vaccinated.
