Question
I have 2 chocolate labs who love to play ball.  The older of the 2 is 71/2 years old.  About a week ago he started having trouble getting up and would favor his right hind leg.  We are assuming that he pulled a muscle or ligament playing ball in the snow.  We have been giving him 1 asprin a day and it seems to help.  When he's outside he runs and plays like normal, but when laying down inside he seems to stiffen up.  Is an asprin a day good to give him?  He is a big dog and over weight, he weighs about 150 lbs.

Answer
I would recommend joint supplements for the long term.

Start him on Glucosamine 1500 mg TWICE a day and
MSM 1500 mg TWICE a day....this will help lubricate his joints and slow down arthritis.

And at 150 pounds, I am guessing your dog is overweight, so a diet is of extreme importance to reduce stress on the joints   www.petfit.com

Reserve the aspirin for the bad days.
