Cat vaccinations

Question
I have a five year old and a two year old cat. They are both due for their yearly vaccinations and I am somewhat strapped for cash. Is it absolutely necessary for indoor cats to be vaccinated every year? I live in an apartment building and they have never been outside. I feed them Eukanuba Adult Formula Chicken and Rice or Lamb and Rice. I brush them daily (one is short-haired and the other medium-haired) and we play often so they get plenty of exercise. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Betsy,
The Rabies vaccine, yes you have to get.. because it is required by law and especially since you are in an apartment setting. As far as the feline distemper vaccines, your five year old has probably had the feline distemper vaccine at least twice in his life, however the 2 year old has probably only had the feline distemper once in his life. I would booster the 2yr old feline distemper vaccine one more time. This is just o help build up his immunity. Then next year perhaps her can skip the feline distemper vaccine. At the clinic I work for, we make the feline distemper vaccine good for 3yrs IF the cat has at least been vaccinated twice in it's life time and if the cat is STRICTLY indoors.
Take care and thanks for the question.
