Reaction to rabies shot?

Question
Hello-

We took our 3-4 year old female cat for a rabies shot this past Saturday, and ever since, she seems to be suffering from some kind of reaction.  She is sleeping more than usual, and is walking and moving very slowly.  Is this normal, or is it something to be concerned with?  I have noticed a decline in appetite as well.

Thanks,

Chris

Answer
Hi Chris.  You should get your cat to your veterinarian as soon as possible.  This definately sounds like a reaction to the vaccine and a steroid injection will be needed to end the reaction.  One of my cats and my dog are allergic to their vaccinations.  Before their vaccinations, they are given a benadryl injection which protects them from having a reaction. You may want to talk to your veterinarian about doing this next time, so you will have no worries!
Please let me know how she does,
Hilary
