Question
We found a sick kitten and I want to know what the best thing to feed it. I heard milk was not a good thing for cats because it's really hard on the digestive tract.

Answer
Hi Suzy!  Yes, cow's milk is definately bad for cats, as contrary to popular belief, cats are lactose intolerant. Their livers can not digest the sugars in cow's milk.  At your local pet store you can find KMR (kitten milk replacer), which is the closest thing to their mother's milk.  If this kitten is old enough to eat on it's own, you can accompany the KMR with some soft canned food, and also give the kitty plenty of water.  If the kitten is not old enough to eat on it's own or will not eat on it's own, you will need to feed it the KMR with a bottle or eye dropper every 4 hours. Kittens will eat until they are full.  You definately should have this kitten seen by a veterinarian as an infection may be present, needing antibiotics.  Kittens are very susceptable to infections, so that may be what is causing him/her to appear ill.
Please let me know how he/she does!
