Red-white hair

Question
My Shit-Tzu used to be white and gray. Since we moved, the white has turned red where she licks herself and around her mouth. When her ears start an infection, the secretions are also red. We had a little iron in our water before in California, and we have a little here in Idaho. It's been suggested that something had changed in her diet, but that is the only thing that is different. I would like to know if there is anything I can do, to get her white again.

Answer
The enzymes in their saliva will turn their fur brown.  She most likely has an underlying allergy to the environment (mold, dust, pollen, grass, trees, etc) or even her food.   If she has chronic ear infections, that is a good sign that she has a food allergy.  I would highly recommend putting her on a fish-based hypoallergenic diet such as those made by Wellness, Flint River Ranch or Wellness.  She should eat this diet only and you should eliminate all treats and bones from her diet but you can give her veggies or veggie based treats that are free of corn, wheat and soy.
