Question
QUESTION: I have this puppy that is 10 months old got her at a pet store when she was 6 months.. She has just gotten fixed.. Even though I have been potting training her she has done well with pooping outside but peeing is something different.. She seems to need to pee or goes pee every hour reather inside ot out.. I am wondering if this is something that will get better or could this be a result to her being in a creat for the first 6 months of her life? Or do you think something worse could be going on ?? Thank you for your time..

ANSWER: It's very common for dogs from puppy mills (which pet store dogs usually are) to have this issue and yes, it's from being raised in wire cages. They don't get the luxury of crates.

Thank goodness you rescued her! You are just going to have to be patient with her and keep up her training and she will get it eventually.

Another thing is that you should have her looked over by a vet as she could have a urinary tract infection which makes her feel like she has to urinate all of the time, even when her bladder is empty.

She could also have bladder stones- even at 10 months old.

So you really need to have the vet give her a good exam (hands on) and do a urinalysis on her as well.

QUESTION: Thank you. I will call my vet and have her take another look at her. Because she was getting so old we got a good price on her and I felt like we were rescuing her. I don't normally buy pet store puppies, but when I saw her I knew we needed to get her out of there and take her home. She really is a sweetie.

Answer
Connie,
What you did for her was a wonderful thing! I just hope that she is okay. I have seen so many of these dogs have health issues for life due to their poor breeding and care.

I am guessing she is going to live a long and happy life with you!!
