Question
I went to get my puppies their vaccinations today at a nearby location and we selected the puppy package of: DHPP, Leptosporosis, Bordetella, deworm and it included a free rabies. I noticed they only put 4 things on each puppy. One by mouth, one in the nose, and two with needle. Is there a possibility that two of those was put in a combination? Were they supposed to put 5 things instead of just 4? Thank you for your attention!

Answer
Hi Katherine,

Distemper vaccinations are most always given with hepatitis and parvo, and often with Lepo. Most puppies get a 5 way combo vaccination- canine distemper, canine hepatitis, adenovirus cough (kennel cough), parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Bordetella is now a nasal spray and rabies is an injection as well.

So I'm sure your puppy was well covered. Now the key is to repeat this every 3 weeks until the puppy is 16 weeks old. They don't get a rabies vaccine until that age (4 months).

Also make sure you get him/her heartworm prevention and give it monthly YEAR ROUND. This is very, very important to keep this puppy healthy and heartworm free for their entire life.

Have fun with your puppy!
