Question
We just found a little kitten (I am guessing around 6-8mths) in our garage.
It is so skinny that you feel bones, no matter were you touch it.  It's fur on
his/her tail is bare in several spots.  I gave it a little food to eat.  We live in the
country (we have 3 golden retriever dogs, that will kill (they kill racoons)it if left
in the garage.)and I am concerned about diseases.  Any suggestions?  Should I
attempt to pick it up?  Should I keep feeding it?

Answer
Poor little thing! This kitty has found you for a reason. You should wrap him/her in a towel and put her where it's warm, like your bathroom where you can close the door. Put her in a little box and set up a little kitty box with shredded newspaper in it for her. Give her small amounts of food off and on ever few hours. You don't want to overload her little system.
Make sure you give her some good food such as Science Diet Kitten Growth.
I would get her into the vets as soon as you can and have her tested for FELV/FIV to make sure you aren't feeding her for nothing if she has a potentially fatal disease.
About the only thing you can get from her right now is ringworm if she has it. That is why I said to wrap her in a towel. Her tail is probably bald from her sucking on it herself or from her hiding in places.

I have never heard of Golden's ever killing a kitten before- that is  very odd to me. Have they killed other cats? Raccoons and cats are two totally different animals to most dogs.

I hope this sweet kitty does well and that you can convince the dogs to not hurt her. She must know that you have a good kitty heart or she wouldn't have found you.
Let me know how she does please.
I will be rooting for her!
