Tail pointed downward

Question
Hello,

We have an 8 yr old pitbull dog and we noticed yesterday night that her tail was not wiggling like it usually does when she is excited.  Instead, it is pointed downward and is between her legs.  Although she does not seem to be in pain, she seems to be in discomfort.  Her tail  tail is currently not swinging upwardly like it usually does. What can this mean?

Answer
Hello!

It may be a physical problem as well as psychological. Some dogs do that when they are unhappy, scared, in pain, etc. But it may also be a sign of a physical problem concerning the spinal column, or a trauma to the tail itself. If the problem persists, I would advise that you see your veterinarian.

Kind Regards
