Salmonella is a bacteria that can be picked up from the environment or from eating raw/undercooked chicken/meat and eggs, most commonly.

Animals who are fed a raw diet are more likely to contract salmonella; however, we do not see that many cases of it in general.

A stool culture should be done and a culture and sensitivity to find out which antibiotic will be most effective for treatment.  Prevention is much better!
