Questionhi,
I have a female cockatiel n i have it for the past six months. It is single n does not have a male. In december 2 mths back it laid an egg . The eggshell was very soft n so we threw it away she did not lay a second egg after that.
But on feb 3rd she again laid an egg, n another egg after 48 hrs . She has been laying eggs after every 48 to 55 hrs(like every alternate day). She has given 6 eggs till now and she is sitting on them.
I have had pigeons n few of them had died while laying eggs n im afraid if she continues to lay eggs she will fall sick. I read that a cockatiel lays about 4 to 6 eggs. what do i do to stop her from laying more eggs. should i let her sit on the eggs or remove them . I have a cuttlebone in her cage n i have given her cuprum metallicum, hydrastis, n arsenicum album in her water bowl so that she does not have a problem in giving the egg. This time her eggs are not soft n she is eating well but she is panting and breathing heavily for a few minutes after laying eggs. will it harm her health if she lays more than six eggs? is there a homeo remedy for unwanted egg laying in birds. I know there are certain hormone medicines but they are harmful for the liver of the birds n weight problems also exist. So do u know of any alternative medicines to stop excessive egg laying. please advice. I even have a pigeon who becomes very weak while laying eggs and she keeps laying eggs all the time even if she is kept seperate from her male.
thank you,
naqshpa.
AnswerI do not know of homeopathic remedy that would stop them. Remedies act by correcting an energy imbalance, and this may be normal.
However, I am not an expert with birds, so I would suggest you pay for a consult with a homeopathic veterinarian who specializes in birds. Two are:
Dr. Ramelmeier - 410-531-9213 (east coast)
Dr. YEarout 425-334-8171 (west coast)
They may have different knowledge than I about how to stop the egg laying, even if not with homeopathy.
