anaplasmosis in dogs

My one year old Australian Shepherd was recently diagnosed with
anaplasmosis.  After two days of treatment with doxycycline, which she
vomited each dose, her meds were switched to amoxicillin, 500 mg 3x a day.  
She seemed to tolerate the new medicine (no vomiting) well.  However, after
just two days of being on the meds, we had to leave for vacation and entrust
the kennel where she was boarded to administer the meds.  We have used
this kennel for years and trust the director and staff to follow our
instructions.  After being at the kennel for two weeks (we picked the dogs up
this morning) I noticed my Aussie had a slight limp in her rear leg and
appears to have lost some weight.  I was assured that she had eaten well and
all the meds were given as per our instructions.  I am wondering if the weight
loss/limp might have aggravated the anaplasmosis due to the stress of being
in the new, unfamiliar environment.  She is eating well now that she's home,
and seems happy and active enough.  I will definitely take her to the vet if I
notice any worsening of her condition.  I just wanted to get your thoughts
about whether stress could bring out the disease more strongly, and any
other advice you may have.  Thank you very much.

Hello Rita- Yes, the kenneling may have cause more stress to your baby.  I am sure in time she will be just fine.  Sometimes you need to keep them on the antibiotics for 4-5 weeks.  She may have had some loose poops related the the antibiotic therapy.

Let's just take some steps forward now and feed some good supplements to help her immune system.
The inflammation is a side effect of the lymes disease.  It can happen and with rest may go away, soon.
Good supplements are the Key to this kid getting better.  ( also, your VET's antibiotics, too)

Hello Rita, yes, the disease your pet has is from Ticks - Many times the Lymes Disease is carried along with this one...
It is a tick disease.. Good flea and tick control will help so this won't happen again.
