Question

alopecia
My 20 month full size red poodle has a small 1/2 inch patch of alopecia surrounded by a circle (1/2 inch patch)of brown hair same length that his coat on his side.  He got clipped 3 weeks ago.  We feed him half and half Eukanuba rice and lamb and some food we prepare for him. (ground beef, potatoes, sweet potatoes and oatmeal). I did not found any other patches. Should i be concerned?  What should watch for?  Thanks you.

Answer
It's pretty hard to see what that is from your photo but anytime you have a dog groomed there is a chance of razor burns, mistakes, etc. Even chemical burns.

If the skin isn't red and there are no other spots, I would just watch it for a few weeks and see if the hair grows back. Otherwise, you can always have the vet look at it and do a skin scraping for Demodectic mange. He is the right age for it.

It doesn't normally start on the side but every dog is different. Better to be safe than sorry.
