Question
We have an approx 15 yr old spayed female cat. She drinks a lot of water and sometimes throws her food up (2-3 times a week.) She is now blind, as of about two months ago. We thought her balance was off for a few months, then noticed her walking straight toward a wall, feeling it with her whiskers and turning quickly, rubbing the wall as if she meant to walk into it....We've had her for only 3 1/2 yrs, she adopted us from neighbors, who later moved, so I don't know her history. However, we've made sure she has her shots. (She's overdue for another round of them...)Question; is there anything a vet could do to reverse her blindness, or anything I could do to help? Could she have diabetes? One day last week there was a little blood in her stool, but it's been better since then.

Answer
You need to get her to the vet for an examination and blood tests.  She could have diabetes, thyroid problems or kidney/liver disease.  Diabetes can lead to cataracts and blindness while both kidney and thyroid disease can lead to high blood pressure that can also cause blindness.   Cataracts can be surgically removed.   High blood pressure can be controlled and could result in some return of function of eyesight provided that her retinas are not blown out.
