Puppy with a mouth infection

Question
We just adopted our terrier mix puppy from a Shelter yesterday. He seems to have foamy drooly mouth that kind of stinks. I took him into the vet today and they are treating him for both a bacterial and fungal infection. Is this common? I feel so bad for my little guy. When they looked in his mouth they said he had ulcers all over his mouth and throat. Any suggestions on what this could be?

Answer
Didn't the vet tell you what it was today? He should have told you what the puppy has.  I am not sure what it is but it could be thrush from being at the shelter. Thrush is a fungal infection and the bacterial part is probably secondary from the inflammation the fungus is causing.

No,it is not common either. But it isn't rare. Shelter dogs can have problems that other dogs don't get due to the conditions they are in for long periods of time.
I hope he gets well soon!!
