Question
I have 2 dogs, a male lab mix that I've had for about 6 years and a female shepard mix about 2 years old. The 2 dogs get along good together most of the time. They share each others food and water and play together without a problem. The problem is that when anybody or another animal walks past our house, the female barks like crazy and runs from one window to another like she is trying to find a way to get out of the house. When she finaly figures out that she cant get out, she atacks the male dog very violently sometimes. Now he runs and hides when she starts to bark.
What can I do to get her to stop this? It is a very big problem. She is a very nice dog and she likes to play with everyone and other dogs. She just doesn't like it when they walk past the house.

Answer
Hi Harold!  Your poor lab mix is getting the brunt of this problem!
Generally, this is definately a behavioral problem, as when a dog gets overly excited, in certain dogs, it can grow into a violent response.  She obviously wants to get out there to the other animal, and is so overly excited, she is getting out those feelings by attacking your other dog.  I would suggest perhaps talking to your veterinarian about this.  Your veterinarian may have a good behavioral specialist that he can recommend that will be able to give you more advice on this problem.
I wish I could be of more help.  Please keep me posted and give those two crazy kids tons of kisses for me!
