puppy behavior

Question
We just bought a 10 week old mixed lab from a rescue farm. He has warmed up to everyone except my husband. My husband(who is 6'5) has given Louie nothing but love and affection since day one. He runs to his crate, and looks petrified when my husband tries to pet him. My husband is getting quite discouraged, he couldnt wait to get a puppy. He didnt expect this kind of behavior. Is this normal? And any suggestions on helping change this behavior?? Thanks so much for your time, the Krenicky Family

Answer
Patience, patience, patience.  No telling why he is so intimidated by your husband.  He might have had some bad experiences with a man or it is just the size difference.  It is hard to say.  I'm sure he will overcome it in time.  Have your husband keep trying, speaking softly around him and to him, approaching slowly, not to startle the pup, feed him, hold him in his lap for short periods frequently.
Labs are usually very outgoing, so this is not completely normal but there is probably no way of knowing what this pup has been through before being rescued.  Hope things get better.  He will soon realize what a lucky puppy he is.
