What shots do puppies need and when?
What shots do dogs need and when?

Answer
Puppies need a 7 way vaccination starting at 6-7 weeks and continuing every three weeks until they are 16 weeks old. They receive Rabies vaccinations at 4 months old.

They then get a booster for the 7way and Rabies at one year. There are now three year rabies and 5 ways they can get instead of yearly now. The 5 ways don't have the Leptospirosis vaccine in it.

Adult dogs need to be boosters either one a year or every three depending on the type of vaccine they got to start with. My dog has a three year rabies and a one year 5 way. So she gets a 5 way once a year and she is 12 yrs old.

ALL dogs need to be started on Heartworm prevention at 6 weeks old and kept on it for LIFE, no matter where you live unless it's in the middle of the Mojave desert. They need to be tested yearly or every other year and kept on the medication YEAR ROUND. Those who think that their dogs can't get heartworms from mosquitoes in the dead of winter have heartworm positive dogs come June. Don't let that happen to your dog.
