Question
can you tell me if chicken bones can cause my greyhound to have a fit please.
she is 4 yrs old, and has had a fit, i am not sure if she has ate a whole chicken carcus, it all happen in the night while we were in bed

Answer
I have never seen chicken bones cause seizures but with dogs anything is possible! Sometimes eating things they are not used to will cause unusual blood buildups of ammonia or liver enzyme levels that can cause a lot of problems. A buildup of ammonia in the blood can cause seizures.

Most often, however, seizures are caused by a short circuit in the brain.

Bones are more likely to cause gastric issues and intestinal perforations and impaction. Any seizure activity that is new should be investigated by a vet. As far as the dietary indiscretions, diarrhea is likely to be the result of that-but watch for blood in her stool.
