Cat dandruff / losing fur?

Hi,
I have a 3 yr old female cat who I just got recently and she seems to have some problem on her fur just above her tail.  Her name is Ashley.

It feels like she is losing fur right around a spot about 2" x 2" and there is cat dander / flakes of skin as well.  Plus her fur is matted in that area as well.  She seems not to be in pain but she notices when you brush this area.  Any idea what it might be?  (And what I should do about it.)

She was moved down from Alaska about 2 months ago and the only meds I've given her was some flea meds on the back of her neck that didn't seem to give her a problem.

Hi Chet.  These are symptoms of Hyperthyroidism, which is very common in cats.  I would definately recommend getting her tested by your veterinarian.  Hyperthyroidism can be treated with medication, which will also help the fur loss and flakey skin.
