Question
what causes a dog to eat its own feces and how to stop it?

Answer
Hi Mike!Check for intestinal parasites. Use a product called FORBID to make the stool bitter. Clean up the waste before they can eat it.The most common reason for dogs eating their feces is poor digestion. It could be that her dog food is just not very digestible. Most good quality dog foods do not fall into this category. The other reason for poor digestion is overfeeding. The food goes through the bowel undigested and it comes out still edible. Measure her food. Feed 1 cup of dry food per 10-15 pounds of body weight per day.You wil have to put it in the dogs food for about a week to break the habit.

Also using a highly digestible diet like ProPlan, Iams, Eukanuba, or Science Diet to insure that your dogs are getting the maximum digestibility from their diet.
