Question
I am a British subject living in India.I have been helping the Blue Cross of India with their ABC programme(animal birth control)This means encouraging as many locals as possible to allow me to take their dogs to the hospital for about 10 days and then return them after the operations, (with a rabies shot too)I have also been assisting with mange control.(On the street)Some dogs here have no fur at all, they are so bad.I had started work on a dog and one day when I went to treat him I found that a few days previous he had been asleep under a car when it started, and because he has no fur to protect him he was badly cut.His owner had not treated the wounds,so by the time i had got to him he was in a bad way.I called the animal ambulance from the Blue Cross and they collected him immediately. They found he had a severe case of maggots in his neck.they started treatment but then found the dog to be deeply depressed and becoming weak.He is in the mange centre(which is quite busy) and I think he misses his owner,he doesn't like being surrounded by other dogs and so tomorrow they are going to bring him to me at home to care for one to one.The Blue Cross of India is a wonderful organization, and of course i have their expertise, but i am just looking around for other opinions on what to feed the dog.Someone told me that he shouldn't be given protein whilst he has maggots as it will just make the condition worse. The local vet i am going to use tells me it will probably take another two weeks to rid him of the maggots before we start mange treatment again. So,what shall i feed him for the next two weeks? and then what diet will help him become strong whilst we are dealing with the mange?

Answer
You need to get that dog, DOG FOOD!  Like a high quality diet from Royal Canin/Waltham. (they have a factory I do believe in either France or England).

Dont listen to the hype about protien, maggots feed on DEAD tissue. NOT healthy tissue.

good luck!
