QuestionQUESTION: I have a 14 month old shar pei named Mei. She usually has bad allergies in pollen season, and mosquitos love to bite her too. I give her benedril sometimes twice a day. This morning we woke up and all four of her legs are covered in red bumps. The hair on her legs looks thin and there's a bump for every wrinkle in every leg. It looks like mosquito bites, but neither me nor my boyfriend was bitten. Could this be some weird allergic reaction? Also, I heard from one Vet that Advantix is the only thing I can give her for mosquitos, but there is an ingredient in it that my vet does not like. Any input would be most appreciated. Thank you.
ANSWER: Hi- give her some benadryl 50mg ( 1 ) every 8-10 hrs - just for today and first thing tomorrow..

QUESTION: We feed her Pennical Trout & Potato Hypoallergenic dog food and give her Benedryl twice a day. I just started giving her fish oil pills, and wiping her down with a mixture of Skin So Soft, vitamin e gel and benedryl cream for the itching. She just finally got better. No more spots. About a month ago I gave her a heart-worm pill and put Advantage on her at the same time, and the spots lasted about a month. I think she's allergic to one or the other and now I'm afraid to give her either one. I know a dog needs heart-worm, especially as much as the mosqiutos flock to her. My vet was just certified to give the heart-worm shot. A shot that lasts 6 months. Have you heard of this shot, and do you know how tested it is and if it's safe?
AnswerHi again - I don't think she is a canadate for the 6 month shot because she appears to be sensative. The shot was taken off the market because of deaths. It is back on the market again - her is a link about it: (the re-call) -

The food you are feeding is good. I would also add a skin and coat supplement to her program - NuVET Plus - it is a wafer treat - all natural - she would need 2 per day - Cost is about 1.00 per day.
