Golden Retriever Eye Discharge

Question
About a month ago, I noticed my 2 year old golden had some light greenish
eye gunk in the corner of his right eye.  In the weeks since, the discharge has
come and gone and now sometimes occurs in his left eye.  It's usually worse
in the morning, and I sometimes apply neosporin to the the corner of his eyes
when it seems to be worse than usual.  His eyes don't appear red and he
doesn't seem to be bothered by them, but he does occasionally (on walks on
the snow) roll around and appear to almost try to scratch them.   I continue to
clean the discharge with a clean tissue, using a new tissue for each eye.  Any
suggestions?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Anytime a dog that young has problems with their eyes I would be concerned. A little gunk now and then in normal but green pus is not.
I would be concerned about inverted eyelashes, tear ducts not working right or being clogged and other things. I have seen the doc I worked for flush out 8 foxtails that had been in a Schnauzer's tear ducts for 6 months!

Eyes are too important so I would make an appointment asap and get him into the vets for a good eye exam.

Let me know what you find out.
