heartworm prevention

Hi,
Is it okay to give my dogs a generic heartworm medication? I have ordered Heartguard on line before because it is to expensive to buy at the vet's office. At Canada Vet website and several others, they have a generic brand which has the same ingredients as Heartguard. I have 2 dogs which I have adopted from the Humane Society and 2 that were strays that were near deaths door when I found them. I nursed them back to health and fell in love with them and kept them. I also have 3 cats which I have adopted. It is so expensive to buy Heartworm prevention for so many so I am trying to find a way to afford it.

Generic heartworm medication is effective; however, I would not use medication from online pharmacies because some online pharmacies are not reliable in that their products come from other countries that may or may not use the same ingredients in their products that we use.
