Question
ruby is a 1 yr old pugzu. on may 7th she had 2 puppies who didnt make it. no fault of hers. i noticed today that there appeared to be a tinge of blood in her urine (like a string almost). no change in appetite, activity, drinking etc. all appears normal/ she is still playing etc. no changes. any suggestions? is this something that i should call the vet about tomorrow? something i can treat at home ?

Answer
Blood is normal post-partum for a while. That is just the uterus cleaning itself out. As long as it isn't yellow, green, smelly, purulent, ropey or stringy and green this is pretty normal.

However it shouldn't last longer than three weeks. If it does, the vet should look her over and you should get her spayed to prevent pregnancy and the chances of her getting pyometra- which is a nasty infection sealed off in the uterus.

She could also be coming back into heat although it's a bit early for that. In that case definitely get her spayed soon!
