Question

Duke O'Brien =)
Started noticing excessive scratching and whimpering mostly toward ears, I had to take to the vet because I was a little concerned he was getting more uncomfortable.   I was told no ear infection, fox tails hot spots, inflammation or fleas, after thorough check, then took ear samples and came with the Dx of trace amounts yeast!!!! I had one week before all this starting given his frontline flea treatment. I am anything but a vet but c'mon dark brown cakey ear wax in a healthy 10 week old pup??? Plus, I have no more money to give the vet this month for no real help... Thanks for taking your time for my dumb question...=) So can brown wax and constant itching be related to the yeast infection??Thanks

Answer
Yes it can. Trace amounts however do not mean he has an ear infection but it can be the start of one.
The glands in the ears produce wax and if he has overactive glands (which he could) then dirt makes it dark and yeast can start to grow in it.

Try using some rubbing alcohol or witch hazel on a cotton ball and clean out his ears once or twice a week. Or get some ear cleaner and clean them then rub them out with the witch hazel. Keeping them clean and dry are the keys.

He is cute as can be!
