If you are seeing worms from your cat you should have your cat examined by a veterinarian.  Sometimes intestinal parasites such as stomach worms can cause pain and/or discomfort in the gastrointestinal tract.

A veterinary professional can perform a fecal exam to determine what kind of worm your are seeing and will be able to treat accordingly.

Intestinal parasites do not usually cause death; however a severe infestation can certainly cause death.  Some intestinal worms actually suck the blood of the host (cat) and can cause considerable blood loss.

It is important to note that some intestinal parasites can be transmitted to humans.  We refer to this as having the potential to be zoonotic. Simply use routine rules for cleanliness - wash hands after handling any animal; keep your pet's living area clean by washing frequently with warm soapy water. Rinse well.  Avoid kissing any pet on the mouth, especially one that you are sure has intestinal worms.  Worms can infect children and care should be taken to teach children to wash hands after handling their pet.

The good news is that treatment is fairly simple and is not costly. Outdoor pets should be treated on a regular basis because intestinal worms come from the environment.

See your vet as soon as possible to have your cat evaluated; your cat will thank you.
