Question
6 wk old kitten found, was badly dehydrated and malnutrition, weighed only 320g. Kitten dewormed, stomach sorted out,now weighs 410g.  Kitten now has scabies as diagnosed by vet.  Bad crustiness on the ears and itching badly. Dr only gave shampoo 2 bath with and recommended Frontline 2 be sprayed on kittens ears.  As she had scraping done on her ears, her ears are currently raw and the Frontline burns her when administered.  Is there anything else i can do or give her for the scabies?

Answer
The only other things to treat this with on kittens are also potentially harmful and possibly fatal to the kitten.

Revolution works- this is a spot on for cats and dogs that is mainly for ticks and fleas. The treatment for scabies is off label. It is an Ivermectin derivative.

Ivermectin works also, but it is in injectable form and not recommended for kittens.

Sentinel or Interceptor heartworm prevention also works- the main ingredient is Milbemycin. However I have no idea what the dosages are for kittens and it can get very expensive as you give one tablet daily ( I believe) but I have no idea what size pill.

Frontline stings because of the alcohol in it. Maybe put it on a rag first and then wipe her down with it. It might give the alcohol time to dissipate some and not sting so much.

After much reading that is all I can find. Scabies is fairly rare even over here and so the treatments haven't changed much.  Keep at it and you will be rewarded with a healthy, happy kitten.
