My black lab dog, 8 yrs old, skin allergy

Question
I have spent hundreds of dollars, to no avail on my black lab, from special Lye type baths, to medicines. Our vet,has not been able to tell us whats wrong with my dog. Hes a black lab, 8 yrs old used to have a beautiful coat, its been about a year now, losing his hair on his back end, itching, blackish skin with no hair. A bit smelly, the vet took a biopsy, said no mites, it was yeast? Did the lye dips for weeks, nothing has seemed to help. He eats IAMS dog food, all his life. I even called to see if they changed an ingredient, I thought food allergy? He doesnt eat people food, only his IAMS< and dog bones, the same ones always. Please if you can help, I feel so bad for him, from biting himself, its on his beautiful black face now, he was always such a beautiful coat dog? Whats happen to him?

thank you so much

Linda

Answer
Hi Linda!

Get a second opinion! or if your vet suspects a food allergy, ask about Z/D or IVD diets.

Did your vet run a DTM to test for ringworm too? Not all ringworm has the typical round lesions.

If you have a veterinary dermatologist in the area, ask for a referral.

Hope this helps!
