having a male and female in the same home both not neutered

Question
Hi Dr.Sherrell,
I have a male Mi-Ki who has not been neutered. He's one year old and weighs 5 pounds. I just purchased a female Mi-Ki, who will be ready to go home on Oct 11,2008. She will be 1lb 9oz when I pick her up. Is there a danger in putting these two puppies together? Will my male hurt her, and try to mount her, even as a puppy who has not had her first heat yet. Do I have to keeop them seperated? Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Joanne

Answer
Joanne -

What danger are you referring to?  Are you asking if they will attempt to mate?  Depending on the maturity of the male, he may try to mate with her but she will most likely not be receptive to him.  I do not think it is necessary to keep them separated unless you find them getting "frisky".
