Cannibal Guinea Pig

Hi,well i have 6 guineam pigs(3 males and 3 females),and awhile back one gave birth to 3 healthy babies.They were fine up until about a week before they were due to leave because then the mum killed them!And i just wanted to know why?I also wanted to know if you think i should hand rear the next 2 litters(from the other females)because i dont want the same thing to happen.

Cannabalism is usually a sign of stress in this type of animal.
Either your quarters are too close (too many in one cage) or she was pregnant again and because they were still in the cage she got rid of them.
Rabbits sometimes do this also, and it is almost always due to stress.
You may have to look over your caging arrangements and fix that before you breed them again.
