hamster ailments

my son has a dwarf hamster with a very swollen eyeball. is this commom? what can we do for him?

Hi Lynn!  Generally a swollen eye is due to a bacterial infection of the eye or a conjunctivitis of the eye.  The only way to treat this would be by taking your hamster to your veterinarian for some antibiotic eye drops.  This is a common ailment and after the eye drops are started, you will see improvement within a few days.
