Very Tiny Pregnant Cat

Question
I have a very small female cat who is approx. 1yr old who has become pregnant. She is EXTREMELY small for her age and I am concerned about her ability to carry a litter at this time, let alone give birth to healthy kittens. Her sides are already huge. I estimate her becoming pregnant between March 4th-13th. When should I expect kittens? Are there any signs I can look for now that may help me narrow down how far along she is? What signs should I look for that there is a problem with the birth? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much.

Answer
Small cats usually have small litters. That isn't always the case however.
The gestation period for cats is nine weeks. If she was bred around the 4th then she would be pretty big since she is about half way there.

You should have the vet check her out. It isn't too late to get her spayed and prevent her from going through any of this. We spay pregnant cats all the time. I am not saying you have to do that, I am just saying it is an alternative.

Otherwise, have the vet check her pelvis size and if he is a good vet (or her) then they should be able to tell you how many kittens are in there.

Good luck with her delivery and I hope all goes well. Please think about getting her fixed as soon as these kittens are weaned.
