Miniature Pischer with Diarreah

Question
I have a female Min Pin that is about 4 yrs old.  We bred her a couple of times and just spayed her a few months ago.  She is up on all her shots and of course a heartworm medication.  We have never had any serious medical problems with her although occassional mild diarreah has occered.  I noticed yesterday that she was not eating her dog food which was from a bag that I just opened this week.  When I went in the bathroom early this morning (this is where she sleeps at night) she had a huge diarreah stool on the floor.  It was really runny and had even "sprayed" up onto the side of the bathtub some.  It was very dark and had grass in it which I know sometimes animals will eat for upset stomach.  She is still not eating her dogfood this morning.  She is acting pretty normal otherwise although just a little less active.  Should I take her to the vet at this point or would you try home treatment first?  Thank you so much for your time and advice.

A Sincerely Worried Pet Owner,
Barbara

Answer
I would recommend fasting her for 24 hours...fluids only.  Pedialyte is a good choice as it willl help replace her electrolytes.  Then introduce a BLAND diet of boiled burger or chicken with rice and plain yogurt (no regular dog food or treats).  If the diarrhea does not resolve in a day or two after that, get her to the vet.
