Cat has fur matted together in knots

Question
QUESTION: I have a 7 year old fluffy furry cat that has her fur in multiple knots and matted together almost through her entire body, especially his side and belly. There are probably over 2 dozen knots, the largest knot that is matted together is about 5-6 cm by 3-4 cm. It has been like this for the last 3 months, and is now about to fall off his skin, causing the skin to be somewhat raw. What can I do to remove the knots?

ANSWER: Hi Ben - Please call a groomer and ask if they do cats... If they do, tell them you want a LION cut for this baby... They will shave him down and leave a fluffy face and tail  ( like a lion)
It is cute and will save him from INFECTION>>>>>>>

Sorry, you have no other choice!

Good luck

QUESTION: Thanks, Marie. Is there some danger/risk if I were to gently try to cut off his fluffy furry hair little by little? I have one of those solid plastic sheets that you put around the pet's neck that prevents them from snipping at you.

Answer
If there are many matted areas you should get the lion cut.  It will cost about 40.00 ( guess) and worth it.  Then, all the area will be even..Get them to shave it down short.
If you cut the cat you can cause major infection... one little snip with the scissors can cause a Staff Infection.

Good Luck
