Ring worm/psoriasis

Question
I just picked up my new puppy from the vet where she was neutered.  She is approximately 9 months old and was taken to the Vet by the Humane Socity to be spayed before I could have her.  Pickles seems to have picked up a skin disorder which I don't believe she had four days ago.  I've had her two weeks.  I'm thinking it is ring worm, excema or psoriasis.  It is a circular, red blemish.  It is not smooth but has little lumps.  She has it in her arm and leg joint and one patch on her mouth.  If it is ringworm, I would like to know how contagious it is to us and other animals and is it easily cured?  Many thanks.

Answer
It does sound like ring worm.  Ring worm is a zoonotic disease which means you, other people and other animals can get it.  It is treated with caneston cream in humans but with grisiofulvin in animals.  However this drug is strongly controlled and is only available from vets.  If you take your dog to the vet and tell them she may have ringworm they can tell using something called a woods lamp.  When exposed to UV lights (woods lamp) the ringworm glows apple green.  however you need to ask a vet to look at this.

I have had ringworm before and it took me ages to get rid of it because it kept turning up.  I found that bathing in hibiscrub (available from vets) helped cure it on me.

Take her to the vet and get it checked out
