Feeding different aged cats...

Question
I was very curious about feeding my two very different aged cats... I notice when I buy hard food they all seem to be geared towards certain age groups... my one cat "Mars" is a Maine-coon and he is 12 years old... but I adopted a kitten Calico who is laughingly named "Satan" last December and she will not be a year old until July of 2012... When I buy hard food for them what exact age group should I aim for?, any advice you can offer would be appreciated and thank you very much for your time...
And just for the record despite their age difference, they get along very well as my male "Mars" is extremely friendly with all forms of life... well... unless your a bird or mouse, lol...
Thank you

Answer
The kitten needs a kitten food for growth and proper development.  So make sure that she gets that.  The older cat may not need anything special yet, but there are senior cat foods that are lower in fat and protein, with more vitamins and minerals.  Once the kitten is a year old, you can use one food for both cats.  If you can find a cat food that says "Complete and balanced for all life stages" then you know that both cats can eat the same food.
