Question
my roommate has a black male indoor cat 4 yrs old...and recently we have noticed that he has lost weight and often vomits up his food.  he also has lost fur from his mid-stomach to his two back legs and i have also noticed bloody sores on him as well....and none of our other 2 cats have these problems.  so i was wondering if you had any ideas of what this could be from i would appreciate it...thanks

Answer
Hi Chandra.
I would definitely take this cat to your veterinarian ASAP.  There are so many possibilities that may be ailing him and blood work, biopsies of these sores and a physical examination is needed to diagnose this ailment.  This cat is only four years old, which is considerably young to be going through this.  One thing that comes to mind is Feline Eosinophelic Granuloma Complex.  This is a skin ailment that is caused by the body's immune system fighting against itself.  This would cause sores, hairloss, and without treatment, gastric inflammation.  The treatment is a simple steroid injection every three months.  Without a diagnosis and treatment, because he is losing weight from not being able to keep food in his system, the outcome will be devestating.  Getting him to a veterinarian promptly is crucial.
Please let me know how he does,
Hilary
