stinky Basset Hound

Question
Hi there,

I have a 3 year old stinky basset hound. He is very healthy and has just recently had a checkup.  He is an inside dog and the only time is let out is to go potty and if we take him for a walk. When he goes potty sometimes he likes to roll in his own poop and this is a recent thing he has been doing.  Before he used to roll in his poop he had a natural stench about him that would just come out of nowhere.  I clean his ears regularly and it never seems like it is coming from there. He is groomed often(every other month). After about 3 days he smells just as bad as before.  The groomers even clean his anal glands.  So now he has a stench plus sometimes a poop smell. I am very frustrated. I have had him for 2 years now. Is there anything I can do about the natural stench that is coming from him? Are some dogs naturally stinky?

Answer
First get your dog to the vet and make sure he does not have an ear infection. Floppy eared dogs tend to be smelly due to a yeast infection in the ears.

Bath often! :)

ps. dogs like to roll in poop, if you dont like it, don't let him do it. keep him on a short leash.

Good luck!
